Winnipeg-born, Alberta-raised, and shaped by Toronto’s music scene, Holly Andruchuk writes country-flecked songs rooted in both place and passage. Her music draws from life across Canada's big cities, small towns, and the quiet, wide-open spaces in between.
Now based in Canmore, Alberta, Andruchuk’s work is inspired by the stories that don’t always make the headlines. Her songwriting cuts deep, confronting violence against women, misogyny, and the abduction and murder of a young woman. These aren’t just songs—they’re acts of witness.
In 2011, Andruchuk had just finished a recording project that meant everything to her—raw, honest, and deeply personal. But she couldn’t bring herself to release it. Years later, she would come to understand that her mental health was holding her back from creating and sharing.
As her children grew and their love for music and art flourished, she reconnected with her own voice. She returned to school, deepened her work in inclusive education, and spent time grounded in nature and surrounded by community. And then, the music returned. Holly finally felt ready to share the work she had held close since 2011—a long-awaited release rooted in healing, growth, and resilience.
Her latest solo EP—produced by James Bunton and featuring the Brothers Elliott, Jon Hynes, and Bunton himself—is a raw, intimate blend of country-rock, anchored by bluesy guitar lines and unflinching lyricism. Tracks like Thomas Howard and Murder of Kelly Cook echo with frustration, confusion, and pain—haunted by the reverberations of trauma, loss, and truth.
This release is in honour of her love for songwriting and music-making. In honour of her children, and the belief that we never stop evolving. In honour of the stories and people who inspired these songs.
